Migrate from SharePoint 2007 to 2010

There are two separate release lines of Search & Preview: one for SharePoint 2007 platform and one for SharePoint 2010 platform. Some of the visible changes between releases are different
versions of Search & Preview dll files and different look and feel of the user interface. Underneath, there are several major changes in the code to embrace the updated SharePoint platform.
For these reasons, when upgrading SharePoint, Search & Preview needs to be upgraded as well to the appropriate release line.

Depending on the situation you will be able to uninstall/overwrite the SP2007 version of Search & Preview BEFORE or AFTER you upgrade SharePoint to 2010.

If you CAN uninstall Search & Preview before upgrading SharePoint (in-place SharePoint upgrade):
1. Delete Search & Preview Search Centers using SharePoint standard options: Search Center > Site Actions > Site Settings > Delete this site.
2. Delete Search & PreviewStyles library at the site collection level: using SharePoint Designer or directly in SharePoint.
3. Restore default settings for search tabs at the site collection level: Site Actions > Site Settings > Search & Preview Search Tabs > Drop-down on a Search Tab > Restore Default Settings.
